1. Purpose

Nexora English Academy is committed to providing a high-quality learning experience that supports consistent academic progress and student success. Regular attendance is fundamental to developing English language proficiency, building confidence, and achieving individual learning goals.

This Attendance Policy establishes clear expectations regarding class attendance, punctuality, absence reporting, and participation for all learners.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Business English students
  • General English students
  • IELTS Preparation students
  • Corporate training participants
  • Individual (One-to-One) learners
  • Group class participants
  • Online workshops and Academy learning events

3. Attendance Expectations

Students are expected to:

  • Attend all scheduled lessons.
  • Join classes on time.
  • Participate actively throughout each lesson.
  • Notify the Academy if they are unable to attend.
  • Demonstrate commitment to their learning programme.

Consistent attendance contributes significantly to successful language development.

4. Punctuality

Students should join their online lesson at least five (5) minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure that their internet connection, microphone, camera, and learning materials are ready.

Students arriving late may:

  • Miss important lesson content.
  • Disrupt the learning environment.
  • Reduce opportunities for participation.
  • Affect lesson objectives.

Repeated lateness may be addressed through the Academy's student support or disciplinary procedures where appropriate.

5. Recording Attendance

Attendance will be recorded by the assigned tutor for every scheduled lesson.

Attendance records may include:

  • Present
  • Late
  • Excused Absence
  • Unexcused Absence
  • Lesson Rescheduled
  • Lesson Cancelled

Attendance records form part of each student's academic progress profile.

6. Absence Notification

If a student cannot attend a scheduled lesson, they should notify the Academy as soon as reasonably possible through the approved communication channels.

Advance notice allows the Academy to manage schedules efficiently and, where applicable, arrange alternative lesson times in accordance with the Lesson Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy.

7. Excused Absences

Examples of excused absences may include:

  • Illness
  • Medical appointments
  • Family emergencies
  • Bereavement
  • Work-related emergencies
  • Technical issues beyond the student's reasonable control
  • Other exceptional circumstances approved by the Academy

Supporting documentation may be requested where appropriate.

8. Unexcused Absences

An absence may be considered unexcused if:

  • No notice is provided.
  • The reason provided is not accepted under Academy policy.
  • The student repeatedly fails to attend scheduled lessons without reasonable explanation.

Repeated unexcused absences may affect learning progress and future scheduling.

9. Attendance Requirements

Students are expected to maintain a high level of attendance throughout their programme.

As a general guideline, the Academy encourages students to maintain at least 80% attendance to maximise learning outcomes. Some programmes or sponsored courses may require a higher attendance threshold, which will be communicated in advance.

10. Participation

Attendance alone does not guarantee learning success.

Students are expected to:

  • Participate in discussions.
  • Complete classroom activities.
  • Ask questions.
  • Practise speaking.
  • Engage respectfully with tutors and classmates.
  • Complete assigned tasks where applicable.

Active participation is an essential component of language learning.

11. Extended Absence

Students who anticipate an extended absence should contact the Academy as early as possible.

Where appropriate, the Academy may discuss options such as:

  • Temporary study break.
  • Revised learning schedule.
  • Course extension (subject to Academy policy).
  • Alternative learning arrangements.

12. Corporate Training Attendance

Corporate learners are expected to comply with both Nexora English Academy policies and any attendance requirements agreed with their employer.

Attendance reports may be provided to authorised organisational representatives where permitted by the training agreement and applicable privacy laws.

13. Attendance Monitoring

The Academy will monitor attendance regularly to:

  • Support student success.
  • Identify learners who may require additional assistance.
  • Improve student retention.
  • Evaluate programme effectiveness.
  • Maintain high academic standards.

Students experiencing attendance difficulties may be contacted to discuss appropriate support.

14. Certificates and Course Completion

Where a course includes a certificate of completion, eligibility may depend on:

  • Meeting attendance requirements.
  • Completing required assessments.
  • Fulfilling course objectives.
  • Satisfying any additional programme requirements.

Attendance alone does not guarantee certification.

15. Responsibilities

Students

Students are responsible for:

  • Attending lessons regularly.
  • Being punctual.
  • Informing the Academy of absences.
  • Participating actively.
  • Following Academy policies.

Tutors

Tutors are responsible for:

  • Recording attendance accurately.
  • Encouraging participation.
  • Reporting attendance concerns.

Academy

Nexora English Academy is responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate attendance records.
  • Communicating attendance expectations.

16. Policy Compliance

Failure to comply with this Attendance Policy may result in:

  • Academic support meetings.
  • Review of learning progress.
  • Adjustments to scheduling.
  • Loss of eligibility for certain course benefits where stated in programme requirements.
  • Other actions consistent with Academy policies.

The Academy will always seek to work constructively with students to promote successful learning outcomes.

17. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains effective, relevant, and aligned with the Academy's educational standards and operational needs.

Conclusion

By attending lessons consistently, participating actively, and communicating openly with the Academy, students maximise their opportunities to achieve fluency, confidence, and their personal, academic, or professional goals.

Every Lesson Counts. Every Step Builds Success.
